As The Barrio-51 became a regular place to send cons, the transportation changed from quick shuttles that made the route in 48 hours to big vessels that took 2 to 3 months to complete the trip.
This situation changed completely the rules of the transportation. From sleeping cons, who woke up in their new home, to big cargo of 50 to 100 people of different condition, from killers to drug dealers or bank robbers, and a considerable amount of prostitutes of both genres, involved in crimes as traffic of human beings and partnership of any dirty business.
The cargo zone was divided in female and male corridors, with several community rooms and bedrooms, usually located in the belly of the ship. They had no views, and a plank running all along the ceiling reminded them of the emergency system that would seal the zone in case of riot.
The genre division was merely nominal, as usual in prisons, the cargo was quickly divided between the most dominant gangs that kept a non stop border war all along the trip. Each group had their corridors, their rooms, their people, their slaves.
Statistics had small variation between travel companies, but the most successful vessels kept a survival rate of 75% of the original cargo when landing. The most troubled trips could get to destiny with much lower numbers, with a record set on 10% of survivors when two big mafia rival bosses were shipped together in one of the first transfers organized.
The cargo also received problem teens travelling with parents, young people who had been already charged for minor issues. The system didnt care about the fairness of moving them forever to the cursed world of the colony. Nothing good was expected from them, bad seeds of corrupted parents.
While the young boys were invited to join the gangs through wild initiation ceremonies, the girls immediately enter the sex market of the ship. In a desperate intent of protecting the underage (less than 17) females aboard, the rape and sex traffic of girls under 17 was punished with the ejection in a 24 hours survival single shuttle to the deep of space.
Underage girls detected were removed from their mothers side, and sent to the protected 'Kindergarten Unit', but if they became 17 before the arrival to the colony, they had to come back to the cargo and face their (usually not easy) fate.
The less troubling or, more usual, the richest or influential cons were invited to work in the kitchens or laundries of the vessel, and got some extra benefits, though they had to spent with the cargo the rest of their daily life and nights.
