We visited the village in the evening, looking for a bar to have some drinks. It was a small, lovely place, and the people was very friendly. They were not used to tourists, and treated us as guests. They  were happy to see Rum, who knew lots of them by their names and seemed to be at home with them.

They were meeting on the beach cause there was a party, and invited us to join them.

Oh wow, it was sooooooo cool!

Some of the girls wore wreath of flowers and when we told them how beautiful they looked, they offered some. Oh wow!
 We all danced on the sand, next to the bonfires, and you know when Umami dances, the world seems to stop, so people were amazed at her and applauded like crazy, making her blush and run to hide behind Silence :)

The room was better than I expected, but I really didnt care.
Rum went out to smoke a cigarette, and I went to bed.

After I told him about my conversation with his mom, he said 'Im sorry, DD', and kept silent.
It worried me cause he was not like that. We had always talked about things that worried him, or me, or both. So i thought he was really angry at me, and I felt guilty of not being smart enough to make her mom like me.
When he came back, and laid by my side, I felt him as far as the moon. I had never been sadder in all my life.

'Dont cry', I told myself, but the tears wet my pillow. I thought, 'tomorrow I will meet the girls, they will help me to fix this'.

And suddenly I heard Rum said, low but clear, 'I know you are very angry at me. There is no excuse for what happened, but please, dont leave me'.
I was so surprised that for some seconds I was paralyzed. Then he said, 'I cant lose you, DD. I love you. I love you the way I believe love is meant to be'. 
He sounded so sad! I turned to him. He covered his face with his arm, and I pushed it, bending over him. Oh my, he looked truly scared and sad, so young, almost as the little boy he used to be, not so long ago.
I melted.

'Rum! I thought you wanted to leave me! Oh my, I was so sad...'
'Me? Why would I want to leave you?'
'Cause your mom doesnt like me'.
'Are you serious? You know I dont give a f**k about that!', he said, so surprised, and I giggled.
'Neither do I',and I kissed him, but he pushed me to look me in the eyes.
'DD... all i want is to protect you and make you happy, and see what I did, allowing this to happen. I will never forgive myself, and never forgive her'.
'Shhh. Moms are moms' , I whispered, thinking, 'and yours is the biggest bitch ever'.
But who cared.

Sorry Angela, if you think Im not the best girlfriend for your son, cause... He loves ME.

Rum rented a car. I thought it was a great idea. First train home was at late afternoon, and i wanted to be away as soon as possible.
He was serious and silent. His mobile didnt stop buzzing but he didnt even care to check it. He asked me if I minded his smoking in the car and I said go ahead, so he opened his window and drove in silence, and after the long night, I dont know when but I fell asleep.

I woke up when he stopped the car in a gas station. I was not hungry but we decided to sit in the bar, and asked for the hamburgers of the menu.
When the waitress went away, Rum bent over the table.
'DD, I want to know what happened'.
'Your mom doesnt like me, she came and told me', I said quickly. 'Thats all, its ok, Im so sorry for the drama, can we please forget about it?'
'I want to know everything'.

'Rum, really, I... we rather forget about it. Please'.
He looked at me in silence and I began crying. Damn, he looked so... different. He never acted that way before.
After some minutes he said I should eat the hamburger, but i couldnt. He didnt touch his either, just said, ok, lets go, and paid the bill.

I dozed a bit more but was awake when we stopped in a motel in the middle of nowhere. It was getting dark, and the neon  missed the M.
The clerk told us the bar would close in twenty minutes, so we went there. I knew I was not able to eat a simple chip. I felt a horrible load in my chest, and just felt like crying. What a disaster.

We sat and the waiter said they only had chicken sandwiches, and Rum said it was ok.
The place was empty. Rum said, 'DD', and when I looked at him he said without smiling,

He was not going to give up, and my silence seemed to make him angry, so I told him what her mom said.
I was there for the money. I was there to sell info about the Van der Kerk family to the journals. I had no morals and Anna Maria had caught us making love in a semipublic place. Lets make the story short, I dont like you DD, you are not the girl I want for my son. Period.

The sandwiches looked horrible. Neither of us had touched them.
'Can we go to the room, please? I am not hungry and Im very tired', I said, and Rum called the waiter.
